Summer Lake Residence Metals

This is a Bill Roach house, where I was involved ever so slightly with some early carpentry. However, after completing the Playa Retreat project with him and Julie Bryant, they asked me to bring some of the ideas we'd been working out in metal up to their house. They left me with the idea of grassy forms for this central guard and handrail while they headed off to explore the great outdoors for a few weeks.

The bedroom ladder (alternating tread device) railing was a very interesting project highlight. The form of the ladder lent itself to a spare but sinuous and organic form.

This segmented rail was inspired by Bill's direction for a simple assembly with broken lines in a syncopated pattern.

It's a home with year-round vistas and perches to enjoy them from.
