Designing this house began with budget discussions, needing to arrive at approximately half the going rate for new house construciton in order to get a construction loan.
With that objective we set out to design our simplest home yet, that eliminated fussy details in favor of simple construction sequences, and in the process we created a wonderful home.
Assessing orientation early on, there was a natural pull into the river vallley below, through a clearing in the trees: a sightline that set the stage for design.
Inside, the open end of the loft combines kitchen, dining, and living space into one volume connected with the outdoors
The craftsmanship was strong thankfully and collaboration between us, the contractor, and owners led to a fluid process with pleasing results.
Natural light is balanced between abundance in the public spaces and thoughtful splashes in the private areas, such as the walk-in closet
